David's new helmet.

The Saturday after Christmas David was in a sledding accident. He caught air and landed on his back. He had a concussion that made him suffer from short term memory loss. His friends called and said that he was asking the same questions over and over but they weren't sure if he was just joking but that we had better come and get him. When my mom and Rusty arrived he was still asking the same questions over and over and didn't know we had Christmas. We took him to the emergency room and they did a cat scan which came back normal. The doctor left to get the discharge papers and David went white then blue he reached out for us then went into a seizure. Heidi and I went screaming down the hall to get the doctor back in. They had to give him 4 doses of adavan which stops the seizure but is also supposed to sedate him. Because of his head trauma he was disoriented and scared and ripped the iv out and the oxygen mask off and was screaming not knowing what was going on. It took 4 nurses, mom, dad, the doctor, and 2 security guards to hold him down long enough to get the restraints on and the drugs in him. They ran another cat scan which came back normal again but they admitted him to the hospital. The next day he could remmeber Christmas again and wasn't repeating questions. He doesn't remember Saturday and there are still a few things that he can't remember. They ran an eeg which is a brain scan and that came back noraml as well. He is home now and I told him I never want to witness anything like that angain. Worst thing I have ever seem and I will never forget it. Now David just has a massive bite on his tongue not pictured and a new helmet for future tubing/sledding trips if he ever goes again.

He is so a 17 year old. The nurse came in and asked if he wanted to take a shower. He said yes and she then informed him that after a seizure typically a nurse or mom helps you take a shower. He goes I think I can manage. Then the nurse said someone needs to help you in case you get dizzy of go into another seizure. David again reply's I think I can manage. So I spoke up and explained it slower to him. David because of your injuries you can't shower alone you can either have this nice nurse help you or mom. It finally clicked and he chose mom. We love are David we are so thankful that he is alright and we have been blessed to have him with us still.

Dang!! That's scary!! I hope he is recovering well now and will remember to wear the helmet next time.

I can't believe how much he looks like you though April. I remember when he was like 8. Has it been that long?
